International art gallery and the oldest wooden roller coaster: Discover one of the most beautiful seaside towns in the UK
The train route from London to Margate is recognized as one of the most scenic rail journeys in Britain. The train ride from the capital to the seaside resort on the Kent coast does not take long, and the fare varies from £11 to £30.
"A trip from London to Margate usually takes one hour 43 minutes, but the fastest trains can take as little as one hour and 24 minutes. They depart from St. Pancras and Victoria stations," the Express website writes.
Southeastern runs 75 trains a day along a 65-mile route that The Guardian ranks as one of the top 10 in the country thanks to its views of wooded hillsides and sloping vineyards.
Margate itself has a sandy beach, an international art gallery, an iconic amusement park, bustling coffee shops, and more.
Getting there by rail, passengers cross the Medway River, which offers views of Rochester Castle and Cathedral, as well as the towers of St. Mary's Church in Reculver, a village east of Herne Bay.
Getting off the train at Margate station, you'll be just minutes from the town's promenade and beach, which are perfect for winter walks or summer sunbathing.
Dreamland Amusement Park is located opposite Margate's Main Sandy Beach. It offers rides, live entertainment, street food and, according to Visit Thanet, the oldest wooden roller coaster in Britain. Visitors can also enjoy a view of the city from the Ferris wheel in the amusement park, and youngsters can ride the Margate Express miniature railway.

Cudillero in the Asturias region of northern Spain is described online as "ridiculously attractive" because of its colourful houses built on a hillside around a harbour with crystal clear blue water.
