A fairy-tale vacation spot, dubbed "Spain's most beautiful seaside village"
A small Spanish fishing village is compared to "fairy-tale" towns for its authentic charm and lack of tourists. Cudillero, in the Asturias region of northern Spain, is described online as "ridiculously eye-catching" because of its colorful houses built on a hillside around a harbor with clear blue water.
Its winding alleys and narrow streets offer stunning sea views, and each of the houses in the village pleasantly matches the color of their owners' fishing boats. Additionally, there are large but quiet beaches nearby, which have even been labeled "secret" due to the lack of visitors. This information was published by thescottishsun.co.
The village is included in the list of hidden Spanish gems compiled by The Geographical Cure, which described it as "the most beautiful seaside village in Spain."
They said: "Cudillero has several secret beaches. And its narrow alleys have some great views where you can admire the colorful houses and terracotta roofs. White and pastel houses are piled on top of each other. There is a nice contrast between the terracotta and the blue sea."
Among the secret beaches they talked about is Playa del Silencio, or "beach of silence" in English. Lonely Planet travel experts have named it one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain, describing it as "a long, silvery sandy cove backed by a natural rock amphitheater."
Playa de San Pedro and Playa Concha de Artedo are also worth a visit to relax on the beach.
However, there is more to do in the city than just relaxing on the coast, as some visitors to the area are attracted by the ancient churches that date back to the 13th century.
Meanwhile, the lighthouse, built in 1858, still stands on the edge of the harbor to keep the city's fishermen safe.
The hill on which the lighthouse stands is another great lookout point, offering stunning views of the Bay of Biscay.
Fishermen are another great reason to visit Cudillero, as their daily catch is served fresh in restaurants such as El Faro and Casa Julio, both of which also have local cider on tap.
Getting to Cudillero is fairly easy and cheap for Brits, with Ryanair offering flights from around £14.99 one-way to the nearest Asturias airport.
A night for two in a hotel can be booked from around £43.
