Discounted Bus Fares in Nottingham Extended Until 2024
Travelers and commuters in Nottingham will benefit from discounted bus fares until the end of 2024. The £2 fare cap, initially launched in January 2023 to address the cost of living crisis, will continue to provide affordable travel options for residents and visitors.
Originally, the discounted fares were to end in June 2024. However, the Department for Transport has announced an extension of the fare cap for participating bus companies and local councils throughout England.
Nottingham City Transport (NCT) recently shared the news on their Facebook page, confirming that the £2 fares will remain available. David Astill, Managing Director of NCT, encouraged those who do not regularly use buses to take advantage of the low fares for trips within Nottingham or to nearby destinations. He highlighted the benefits of using public transport over personal vehicles and the chance to try out the new electric buses introduced on certain routes.
According to NCT, 92% of their customers are aware of the £2 fare cap, with 4% having started using the bus service as a direct result. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on travelers and promote the use of public transportation.
The continuation of the discounted fares not only helps to manage living costs but also supports sustainable travel. The extension allows more people to explore Nottingham and its surroundings affordably, while also contributing to reduced traffic congestion and lower environmental impact.
