American Airlines Expands Service with New Flights to Provo, Utah
American Airlines has broadened its domestic network by adding Provo, Utah as its 228th destination. The airline, which is a member of the oneworld alliance, will initiate flights to Provo from Dallas/Fort Worth and Phoenix starting October 7th, marking its third location in Utah.
Provo is emerging as a key air travel hub just an hour south of Salt Lake City and is known for housing Brigham Young University. The city's airport recently underwent significant upgrades, including a new passenger terminal, enhancing its appeal to major carriers like American Airlines.
From its hubs at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), American will operate a total of three daily flights to Provo. This new service not only links Provo to American's extensive global network but also enhances connectivity to over 30 destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Joe Sottile, the Director of Domestic Network Planning at American Airlines, expressed excitement about the new routes, emphasizing the convenience and connectivity they bring to local residents.
The Provo service will feature the Bombardier CRJ-700, operated by SkyWest Airlines, accommodating 65 passengers with a configuration that includes first class. The strategic flight times from DFW allow for day trips to Texas, further increasing travel flexibility for Provo residents.
The announcement has been positively received locally, with Provo's Mayor, Michelle Kaufusi, praising the significant impact of American Airlines' commitment to the city. The service is seen as a validation of the foresight involved in the airport's expansion and development.
Provo Airport officials, including Director Brian Torgersen, highlighted the importance of attracting major carriers as part of their broader air service development strategy. This new service is expected to significantly benefit the community, enhancing both business and leisure travel options.
With this expansion, American Airlines not only increases its footprint in Utah but also strengthens its overall network, providing more travelers the convenience of accessing major domestic and international destinations directly from Provo.
