90 minutes from London: What you need to know about Wicksteed Park, the birthplace of entertainment
Wicksteed Park is an amusement park that has been bringing joy to its visitors for over a century. This park, located in Kettering, 100 miles north of London, is considered one of the oldest in mainland Britain and the world.
It is noted that the park is known among locals as a place where you can spend time with your family. What this amusement park offers its visitors and what is the secret of its long-term success is reported by MyLondon.
It is reported that in 1913, Charles Wicksteed, the owner of a machine-building plant in Kettering, purchased the land with the intention of creating a model village for his employees. However, after the First World War, the local authorities began to build houses, so the entrepreneur decided to build an amusement park for locals. Five years after its opening, the park featured a pavilion, a theatre building, a rose garden, a water gutter, a summer stage, and a fountain.
Today, Wicksteed Park offers its visitors to enjoy both classic rides, such as cups and saucers, a clown minicoaster and a carousel, as well as the Thrill Zone. In particular, guests can ride a dinosaur-themed roller coaster, passing through the legs of a brontosaurus and other reptiles on the way.
In addition, one of the park's main attractions is the narrow-gauge railway, which has transported more than 15 million visitors since the park opened in 1931. It is still considered a highlight of the park and is eagerly sought after by visitors.
Earlier, TravelWise reported that the UK plans to restore Cairngorms Park as part of an environmental strategy.
