On 8 April 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the sky. It will last four minutes and 27 seconds in the US, which is quite a long time compared to previous eclipses.

To get the best view of the unique phenomenon, think now about where you should book your outdoor accommodation and campsites, as other travellers are also looking for an eclipse. A selection of the best places in the US was published by Thrillist.

Safari tent in Witney, Texas

Price: USD 800 per night

Texas is lucky: the entire Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area will be in the eclipse zone. April in Texas boasts exceptional weather, so you'll have no trouble enduring it outdoors in this secluded safari tent, fully equipped with a queen-size bed, fireplace and free Wi-Fi.

Gulpha Gorge Campground in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas

Price: $ 34 per night

The total solar eclipse will take place in Arkansas at 13:45 CST, which means you'll have to kill some time in the morning - and what better way to do it than with a leisurely soak in the thermal waters? Hot Springs National Park is the oldest nationally protected park in the United States, and its creek-side campsite is located right under the sun and moon's collision course.

You can't book dates for April until early October this year, so don't miss out.

Billy Creek Campground in Moose, Oklahoma

Price: free

To relax right by the water, head to Billy Creek Campground in the Ouachita National Forest. Here you can dive into the crystal clear waters of Billy Creek. Surrounded by pine trees, this 12-site campground is nestled between many hiking trails that offer views of the surrounding forest.

This place is perfect for a large group of friends who wanted to see the eclipse in good company. The place, which can accommodate up to 20 people, is located at Arcadia Valley Outdoors Land, an artistic campsite nestled on the backside of Shepherd Mountain in Arcadia Valley, Missouri. Four microsites, each with two or more tent pads, surround a central common area with a large fire pit.

Getaway lodge in Columbia, Indiana

Price: 227 USD/night.

Located just an hour's drive from Indianapolis, this tiny cabin is perfectly minimalist but has all the essentials, like a hot shower, a two-burner stove, and most importantly, a mobile phone box so you can completely disconnect and immerse yourself in nature - after all, the beauty of a solar eclipse can't be captured on an iPhone.
