Uber Adds Boats to Its European App
Uber will add boat reservations to its app in parts of Europe this summer through a partnership with Click&Boat. The new Uber Boat option is expected to appear in the app from mid-June, giving users a way to book coastal trips without arranging a charter separately. The pilot will cover selected seaside destinations in Portugal, France, Spain, Italy and Croatia.
Click&Boat will provide access to its fleet of more than 55,000 vessels, with bookings built around different types of trips. Options are expected to include sunset rides, water sports, appetisers at sea and day trips to quieter coves. The company says users will not need a boat licence or previous experience, as a skipper will be on board.
“For the first time, boating becomes part of everyday mobility. It’s the ultimate shortcut to unforgettable memories on the water."
The pilot will run in 23 coastal cities, including Split, Dubrovnik, Saint-Tropez, Nice, Mallorca and Barcelona. Click&Boat says prices will match those listed on its own platform. Its chief executive, Christian Berces, said the partnership gives travellers more flexibility without needing to commit to a full-day charter or pay for traditional excursions.
The service could make short boat trips easier around some of Europe’s busiest coastlines. In Croatia, visitors may find it simpler to reach islands and swimming spots near Split or Dubrovnik. In France and Spain, the app-based option could help with coastal outings around Nice, Saint-Tropez, Mallorca and Barcelona, especially for people planning half-day sea trips.
Uber already has experience on the water through Uber Boat by Thames Clippers in London, which operates river bus services across 24 piers. The new European pilot is different because it focuses on leisure trips rather than city transport. Its value will depend on price, availability and local rules, but it could make boat hire feel less complicated for casual holidaymakers.
