The number of refusals of entry to Vietnam for tourists is increasing

Despite Vietnam not being a leading destination among Asian countries, some tourists are encountering issues when traveling to the country, as reported by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

It's noted that in the first two months of this year, there was an increase in the number of foreign visitors denied entry to Vietnam, primarily due to invalid documents, according to TheStar newspaper.

In total, 217 foreign nationals were denied entry in January and February. In contrast, there were 886 cases for the whole of 2023, 404 cases in 2022, and 506 cases in 2020.

Airlines operating regular international flights to Vietnam have received a directive from authorities to scrutinize the travel documents of passengers arriving and departing from the country. It's also reported that since 2022, incidents involving fake passports and issues related to air travel documents on international flights have been increasing worldwide.

Airlines are experiencing losses due to the growing number of passengers denied entry, and this places a burden on airports responsible for handling the returning passengers, potentially compromising security.

CAAV has advised airlines operating international flights to Vietnam to promptly update their entry, departure, and transit rules for airline passengers to minimize the number of individuals denied entry. Airlines should distribute the necessary airline documents in various formats to passengers and relevant travel companies.

CAAV has also urged countries from which flights depart to carefully monitor passenger documents and reduce instances of invalid documents. It's emphasized that most passengers recently denied entry to Vietnamese airports did not possess a valid visa.

If a passenger is denied entry, the airline transporting them is legally obliged to return them to the airport of departure. If passengers are unable to purchase tickets or run out of funds, the airline must cover the cost of tickets to return them to the airport of departure.
