Travelers heading to or from Italy and Greece on 9 April are being warned to brace for potential disruptions, as aviation workers in both countries prepare to go on strike. These industrial actions happen in the midst of a busy Easter holiday period and during the yearly closure of UK schools, which may unsettle families and tourists who time their holidays around this prime travel window. Passengers are advised to keep a close eye on their flight statuses, as delays and cancellations could be widespread.

Flight attendants of EasyJet based in Italy employed by these airlines, and represented by Italian unions FILT, CGIL,UIL among others are reportedly set to strike between 10:30 am and 2:30pm CET. This strike action specifically threatens to disrupt flights at key airports such as Milan and Naples, which handle significant volumes of domestic and international travel. EasyJet has assured passengers that the airline is doing its utmost to minimize the impact and will proactively contact affected customers.

Meanwhile, in Greece, air traffic controllers have planned a comprehensive 24-hour strike on the same day, further complicating travel across the continent. The strike organized by ADEDY, Federation of public service workers in Greece, reflects the wish for bonus holiday pay reimbursement, accommodation solutions and real wage increments. Greek Air Traffic Controllers allege staffing shortages and antiquated equipment has been the cause for a never-ending parade of delays-that's why they did this.

Greek Strike air traffic controllers will only land flights deemed essential i.e. medical emergencies, humanitarian aid, military operations and search and rescue. Consequently, commercial flights to and from Greece will face the brunt of the disruption, leading to severe travel impacts across Europe. Passengers should expect that there will be delays, cancellations and rebooking headaches that are going to have a major impact on the plans of air travelers.

For holidaymakers, these strikes highlight the vulnerability of travel plans to unexpected industrial actions. Travellers need to routinely refer back to the updates from airlines, keep lines open with those they are travelling with and consider other arrangements if necessary. Flexibility and careful planning will be crucial in navigating disruptions successfully during one of Europe's busiest travel periods of the year.
