Spies to Launch First Direct Flight from Aalborg to Cape Verde in April 2026
Spies will introduce the first-ever direct flight from Aalborg, Denmark, to the island of Sal in Cape Verde on 14 April 2026. Operated by SunClass Airlines with its largest aircraft, the Airbus A330, the new charter route allows residents of Northern Jutland to enjoy a week in the tropics without stopovers. The launch is an important step for Aalborg Airport, adding a new long-distance holiday destination for travellers.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm among local travellers. According to Aalborg Airport, the new connection adds a fresh option for North Jutlanders who already enjoy direct routes to southern destinations. The partnership between Spies, SunClass Airlines, and the airport is expected to attract strong interest from holidaymakers seeking longer, sun-filled getaways from Denmark.
Cape Verde sits off the west coast of Africa and is known for its endless beaches, turquoise waters, and relaxed island culture. The new service offers Danes a chance to reach a tropical climate in only seven hours. With an average temperature of 26°C in April and approximately 350 days of sunshine each year, Sal Island offers an ideal escape from Scandinavian spring weather.
The route also opens easier access to Cape Verde’s unique attractions. Travellers can relax on the long white beaches of Santa Maria, float in the salt pools of Salinas, or watch the sunset from the town’s pier. Away from the shore, they can listen to local music and feel the island’s easy-going rhythm that defines its "no stress" spirit. Small markets, beach cafés, and friendly locals make Sal a place where time seems to slow down.
For Danish holidaymakers, the new route offers an easier way to reach a warmer climate. Travellers can fly straight from Aalborg to Sal without changing planes, making the trip more convenient. The connection brings the relaxed atmosphere of Cape Verde within easier reach of Northern Europe. It also gives families and couples more choice for spring and summer holidays without the need to travel via Copenhagen.
