As of the first of January two thousand twenty-five, the nations of Romania and Bulgaria have officially joined the Schengen Zone, enabling unrestricted movement between these nations and additional Schengen participants. This decision, finalized by the European Council on the twelfth of December two thousand twenty-four, concludes a lengthy unification procedure and marks a noteworthy achievement for both nations as they become full participants in this shared European travel space. The addition of these nations reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen unity and streamline travel across Europe.

For visitors, this development eases trips to and from the nations of Romania and Bulgaria, removing the need for customs inspections at terrestrial borders with adjacent Schengen nations. This step is expected to promote tourism and bolster local economies while fostering closer bonds and collaboration within Europe. Furthermore, the move promotes a more interlinked continent, making travel between these destinations quicker and more straightforward for tourists and locals.

Romania offers a wide array of attractions for visitors.
