The city of Aveiro, located on the central coast of Portugal, is often called the "Portuguese Venice" for its long canals and charming, romantic atmosphere. Prices in this place are much lower than in the Italian resort.

For example, a pint of beer costs up to 2 pounds sterling, writes Express. Another pleasant fact is that the flight from the UK to Aveiro will not take more than three hours, which makes the destination pleasant for short vacations.

The Portuguese equivalent of Venice also has a thriving fish trade and colorful boats that tourists love to see plying the canals.

The city is dotted with low houses, old and new, that are architectural works of art, and the local clean squares are sure to appeal to travelers who don't want to get caught in the crowds, as is often the case in Venice.

Aveiro is half the size of an Italian resort, but that doesn't mean it's short on attractions. Guests of the city are offered excursions, luxury hotel rooms for a few tens of pounds, and delicious cuisine in colorful restaurants.

A trip here will be no less exciting than a trip to Italy, but it will cost several times less. In addition to romantic walks along the canals, the city also offers picturesque sandy beaches, which are especially pleasant in summer when the temperature does not reach above 30 degrees.
