New Zealand introduces new strict rules for RVs: What you need to know

British travellers planning an unforgettable trip to picturesque New Zealand are advised to carefully read the new camping regulations to avoid heavy fines.

The growing popularity of RVs in recent years has led to some tension with locals and tourists who litter the land. The Mirror writes about the introduction of the innovation.

On December 7, 2023, a new law regulating camping was adopted. According to it, only vehicles equipped with stationary toilets receive a certificate of autonomy, which allows them to park in 500 special locations for recreation.

Portable toilets are no longer allowed, and stricter standards are introduced for water supply and ventilation systems in campers and vans.

Vehicles that meet the new requirements receive a green certificate or a special sticker. Violators who park in non-designated areas without the appropriate sign risk a fine of up to NZ$2,400 (£1,159).

It is worth noting that the new rules will be implemented in stages over 16 months. However, you should take care of renting a specially equipped van in advance as the need for them will increase significantly.
