New Regional Bus Route Connects St Andrews to Edinburgh Airport
Starting May 5, Stagecoach will introduce a new coach service, JET787, connecting St Andrews directly to Edinburgh Airport. The route will pass through Guardbridge, Cupar, Auchtermuchty, Kinross, and Halbeath, operating up to every two hours. The service includes both early morning and late-night journeys, with travel times of approximately 90 minutes from St Andrews and 40 minutes from Kinross.
The direct route aims to offer passengers an alternative to transfers through central Edinburgh. It also links with other Stagecoach services at Kinross and Halbeath Park & Ride facilities, where free parking is available. This allows passengers from surrounding areas to reach the airport using a single mode of public transport. The buses will feature designated luggage storage, which may be useful for those carrying larger items or travel equipment.
Public transport provision continues to grow at Scotland’s busiest airport and will stay a key focus for us.
Whether catching an early flight or arriving back late, passengers will find services scheduled to fit their plans. Travellers from more remote areas may find the direct service particularly useful, reducing the need for multiple connections. Integration with other Stagecoach services extends travel options beyond the main stops of JET787, potentially improving regional connectivity for both short- and long-distance travelers.
The route may be of interest to those arriving in Scotland who plan to visit towns such as St Andrews, known for its university and coastal location. Passengers can also travel through Cupar, with its mix of historic architecture and local markets, and Kinross, which provides easy access to Loch Leven and scenic outdoor spots. Auchtermuchty, a smaller town along the way, is home to traditional Scottish architecture and local walking trails.
By connecting more regional towns directly to the airport, the route expands the area’s public transport network. The new link sounds promising, but its real value will show once we see how reliable it is and whether there’s enough demand to keep it going. Tickets are available in advance via the Stagecoach Bus app, with concessionary travel available for under-22s, over-60s, and eligible disabled passengers.
