Finnair has confirmed a new seasonal route to Alta in Northern Norway, expanding its summer 2026 Nordic offering. Beginning March 29 through October 22, flights will operate five times per week between Helsinki and Alta with a stop in Kittilä, using a 68-seat ATR aircraft. This enhancement reflects Finnair's attempt of making northern geography more reachable even during summer, as the interest in travel to Arctic north has increased year-round.

The route builds on the airline’s existing Nordic network and signals a shift from winter-centric services to broader year-round access. What was previously just for the colder months, Alta and Tromsø will be on the summer trip bucket list with Alta highlighted because of its rising cruise-popularity. By making it easier to reach these remote areas, Finnair supports the expansion of sustainable tourism in Arctic regions.

Alta, at the heart of open landscapes and cultural heritage, harbors to travelers some unique summer adventures from midnight sun-hiking to river rafting and the viewing of prehistoric rock carvings recognized by UNESCO. The region’s Sámi culture, visible in local museums and reindeer farms, provides insight into the indigenous lifestyle. For adventure seekers and culture fascinations, there is a quieter version of summer holiday hotspots that does not involve the overcrowded southern European summer destination.

With the added stop in Kittilä, travelers can now plan multi-stop journeys through Finnish Lapland and northern Norway. Kittilä is a gateway to surrounding wilderness areas, as well as summer outdoor festivals and authentic Arctic villages in the vicinity. This combination of destinations makes it easier to explore the full Nordic north in one trip, blending coastal Norway’s scenery with Finland’s forested landscapes and inland adventures.

This development represents a meaningful change for travelers looking beyond conventional routes. By extending summer access to Alta, Finnair opens the door to more varied, immersive experiences in the high north. For those seeking fresh air, cultural discovery, and solitude, this route offers a practical and inspiring path to the Arctic under the summer sun.
