Europe’s Biggest River Ship Gets a Danube Date
AmaWaterways has revealed more details of AmaRudi, a new double-width river cruise ship planned for the Danube in spring 2027. The vessel follows AmaMagna and is being billed as Europe’s largest river cruise ship. It will be designed for passengers who want more space on board without moving into full ocean-cruise territory or resort-style scale.

AmaRudi is being designed for passengers who want more space than a standard river ship usually gives. The vessel will have balcony suites from 355 to 710 square feet, four dining venues, a wine bar, al fresco meals and a Deck Club barbecue. Wellness and leisure will also take more room on board, with massage rooms, fitness space, guided classes, a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox.
On the Danube, the new ship will put river stops and city days at the centre of the trip. Depending on the itinerary, guests can build journeys around places such as Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and cities in Southeast Europe, with excursions rather than airport transfers taking up the main part of each day. The format also suits slower travel between historic centres.
AmaRudi feels aimed at people who like the idea of river cruising but do not want the smallest-ship version of it. Bigger cabins, more food options and proper wellness space will appeal to guests who want comfort, not just a bed between excursions. Still, the route matters most. A big ship only works if the Danube stops are worth the trip.
