Etihad Airways has started operating its Airbus A380 on the daily route between Abu Dhabi and Toronto from 24 June 2025. The introduction of the superjumbo increases passenger capacity by 31 percent and marks the aircraft’s first regular presence on Canadian soil. A water cannon salute at Toronto Pearson International Airport commemorated the flight, underscoring the strengthening travel links between the UAE and Canada.

This change replaces the smaller aircraft previously used and allows Etihad to better meet demand, especially during peak travel periods and for family visits. The Airbus A380 features four cabin classes with the following seat configuration:

  • 405 seats in economy class
  • 70 lie-flat business studios
  • 9 private suites in first class
  • 1 three-room suite called The Residence
We are proud to introduce the A380 and offer guests flying between Abu Dhabi and Canada an extraordinary new travel experience with Etihad. The introduction of our flagship aircraft on this route reflects our deep commitment to the Canadian market.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, Etihad Airways

Passengers departing from Canada now have improved access to several notable attractions in the UAE. Highlights for visitors include Saadiyat Public Beach, renowned for its spotless white sand and clear waters; the Al Ain Zoo, offering a close look at regional wildlife preservation; and Ferrari World on Yas Island, a theme park packed with fast-paced rides and attractions. Enhanced flight availability and reliable scheduling make visiting these popular sites more convenient.

Those arriving in Canada can take advantage of the expanded service to explore outdoor destinations near Toronto. Visitors can enjoy boating and wine tasting at Peller Estates Vineyard in Niagara on the Lake, relax at Santa’s Village in Bracebridge, a family friendly holiday park and experience hiking and zip lining adventures at Blue Mountain Adventure Park. The increase in seats on the route is expected to ease congestion during busy travel periods and provide greater flexibility for tourists.

The deployment of the A380 reflects a broader shift in the aviation industry as airlines respond to revived demand across long distance routes. Improved in-flight comfort, increased seat capacity, and more dependable scheduling help reinforce ties between North America and the Middle East. The upgrade offers improved options for passengers looking for more convenient and comfortable long-distance travel.
