East Midlands Railway (EMR) has launched a seasonal ticket sale offering over 100,000 discounted fares across its network. The promotion began on 28 July and covers one-way travel between 4 August and 7 September. These reduced fares are only available for Advance bookings and apply exclusively to the train and date selected. The sale ends on 10 August or once all allocated tickets have been sold.

The discounted routes cover both large cities and regional towns within England. Among the destinations included:

  • London to Nottingham from £19.50
  • Manchester to Sheffield from £5.00
  • Liverpool to Manchester from £3.60
  • London to Kettering from £11.45
  • Norwich to Grantham from £11.10

Tickets are valid only for Advance purchase and must be used on the specific train and date selected. Not all services are included in the offer.

With so many great-value fares, this summer is a fantastic opportunity to spend time with friends and family, explore new places, or return to your favourite spot. Whether it’s visiting London, enjoying city breaks in the East Midlands, Manchester, or Norwich, or relaxing on a coastal getaway, there are plenty of options to choose from. With great destinations and lower fares available, I’m looking forward to more people being able to take the train this summer.
Jenna Cowie, Interim Commercial Director at East Midlands Railway

Those arranging summer travel within the UK can take advantage of the sale to lower transport expenses during a period when demand is typically high. August is traditionally one of the busiest months for domestic travel, and rail fares often increase on popular routes. Getting tickets early means avoiding the scramble that usually happens just before departure, when it’s tougher to grab a seat and prices climb quickly.

Blending major cities with lesser-known towns gives people a chance to change up their usual travel plans and discover new places along the way. If the roads are crawling and airports feel like a crowd magnet, catching a train can be the calmer, easier way to get where you're going. Not every train will have these lower fares, so adjusting your travel schedule can help you catch the cheaper options when they appear.

Deals like this can shift the way people think about organising their travel during the busiest times of year. By temporarily lowering prices on specific services, it allows a wider range of passengers to access intercity travel. For many, it may open opportunities for visiting family, planning day trips, or taking short breaks that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive during the summer rush.
