WTTC Advocates for Strategic Support to Amplify EU's Travel and Tourism Sector
In a pivotal move aimed at reshaping the European Union's travel and tourism landscape, the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has launched an urgent "Call to Action" from Brussels. This strategic initiative seeks to galvanize EU stakeholders into bolstering a sector that not only underpins over 22 million jobs but also contributes a staggering €1.4 trillion to the EU's economy. With an eye on the future, the WTTC's vision projects an increase in the sector's economic input to €1.9 trillion by 2033, an achievement that would signify the sector's critical role in the European economy, equating to one in every ten euros generated within the EU.
This ambitious forecast is supported by the WTTC's Economic Impact Research, which also anticipates the creation of nearly 4 million new jobs by 2033. This growth would see the travel and tourism sector representing one in eight jobs across the Union, setting a new precedent for employment in the region. Central to the WTTC's "Call to Action" are key areas of focus including sustainability, the simplification of travel across borders, and the digitalization of the sector. These strategic areas are designed to ensure that the travel and tourism industry not only thrives in a green and sustainable future but also benefits from streamlined travel processes and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, emphasizes the sector's pivotal role in driving economic growth within the EU. She calls on the EU to embrace these recommendations, highlighting the potential for sustainable growth, talent attraction, and prosperity. As the sector stands on the brink of digital transformation, this "Call to Action" represents a significant step towards achieving unprecedented growth and resilience in the European travel and tourism industry.
