Worth a visit: locals tell the benefits of the Portstewart area
Co Derry has been named the best place to live in Northern Ireland by the Sunday Times. The beach, numerous coffee shops, and community spirit are particularly praised here.
Belfast Live talked to people on a calm day in the seaside town. Locals in the Portstewart area agreed on the city's advantages.
One gentleman who regularly visits the city said: "My wife and I love Portstewart. We come here at least three, maybe four days a week, and we just love it here. We don't live here, we live in Limavady, but we travel here all the time and we love it. People are very polite here. I like the view, it's a very beautiful view."
A biker named AJ said: "Portstewart is a great place and I would come here regularly, but we discussed this recognition of it as the best place to live in Northern Ireland before. And we all agreed. So it's the perfect place for us."
The man, who is originally from Dungiven, said he likes "the whole area" along the North Coast.
"I actually really like the area, I really like to walk around the area, which I'm doing today," he said.
Another gentleman, who was with his wife, also emphasized that he likes the friendliness of the people.
"What we like most about Portstewart is the friendliness. And the weather is always good here, even if it snows."
In addition to the scenery and friendly atmosphere, coffee shops, restaurants and cafes received good marks.
An elderly man enjoying a stroll along the waterfront said: "Yes, we love Portstewart because it allows us to just be by the sea. We love being by the sea and I like the great shops, the good coffee shops, the restaurants, and the walks. We love to go to Strand Beach, Whitecreek, and walk down the sand dunes with our kids and now our grandkids. It's just a beautiful place."
