Where is the safest place to sit on a plane to preserve your life: research
During every airplane trip, the question arises in the minds of many people as to which seat is considered the safest. According to research, middle seats in the back of the plane are the safest.
These conclusions were drawn from an analysis of accidents with both fatalities and survivors between 1985 and 2000. It was checked where the survivors of each accident were sitting, writes FodorsTravel.
However, experts emphasize that each disaster is an individual case, which is important to predict and anticipate. Therefore, there is no point in choosing the "safest" seat on your flight because it is impossible to know in advance exactly what kind of disaster may befall the flight.
It is specified that, according to the results of studies, passengers who sat within five rows of the emergency exit also had a better chance of surviving an accident that also included fatalities. For example, in one crash in August 1985, all but seven of the 27 passengers who survived were seated within five rows of the exit, but a significant number of the 136 who died were also seated within five rows of the exit.
Regardless of which seat a passenger chooses, they can be assured that the aircraft is maintained to strict standards, with pilots and flight attendants receiving extensive training (and retraining annually) on safety issues. It's also worth noting that each previous accident provided information on how to prevent their recurrence and how to prevent injuries or death in accidents.
On the other hand, experts draw attention to the fact that although the choice of seat cannot definitively decide a person's fate in the event of an emergency, there are steps that passengers can take to ensure their safety. These include reading the safety card, paying attention to safety demonstrations, and remaining vigilant during safety-critical phases of the flight.
