What mistake during booking can cost passengers a lot
Passengers have been warned that a single mistake when booking a flight can cost them dearly. Using abbreviated names and nicknames in everyday life, some people may forget the full names of their loved ones when purchasing tickets.
This happened to a couple from Australia when the traveler's husband entered the name Kate instead of her full name, Katherine. When checking the passengers at the airport, the staff had to refuse them. Thrillist guided what should be done to avoid making a mistake.
According to the requirements of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), the name on your ID must match the name on your ticket for both domestic and international flights.
To avoid any misunderstandings, you just need to check if there are any typos or mistakes in the name by comparing the ticket with your passport. If a discrepancy is found, employees may force you to rebook the ticket and pay again.
The exception exists only in cases where the name has a suffix. According to the newspaper, if the passport has a suffix but the ticket does not, or vice versa, TSA will still accept the documents.
Upon discovering the mistake, passengers are advised to first consult with the airline or airport to see if the typo can be corrected. If not, you should return the ticket and try to get a refund.
