Uruguay Shines as Host of the Inaugural Global Responsible Wine Tourism Summit

Uruguay recently took the spotlight in the wine world by hosting the pioneering Global Responsible Wine Tourism Summit, a landmark event organized in collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the World Wine Tourism Organization. Held at the prestigious Enjoy Hotel in Punta del Este, the summit has set a new precedent in wine tourism, emphasizing responsible practices, innovation, and synergy among professionals across the globe.

The three-day gathering was a hotbed of dialogue and networking, uniting wine industry experts, tourism and gastronomy professionals, suppliers, intermediaries, and enthusiasts from around the world. The Enjoy Hotel played a pivotal role, facilitating business meetings, academic sessions led by leading national and international figures, an exhibition space for tourism products, and a series of activities aimed at fostering connections among industry leaders, oenologists, sommeliers, and gastronomic sector groups.

Eduardo Sanguinetti, the Minister of Tourism, underscored the significance of the summit in advancing wine tourism globally and positioning Uruguay as a distinguished wine tourism destination. "We are thrilled to have hosted this event of immense international importance. Our gratitude goes out to the World Wine Tourism Organization for entrusting us with this inaugural summit. The summit received substantial support from the National Institute of Viticulture and the municipalities of Canelones, Colonia, Maldonado, and Montevideo, alongside numerous Uruguayan wineries in these areas. One of the highlights included visits to several wineries, offering over 300 attendees from nations such as Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Spain, China, Italy, Peru, the USA, Greece, Russia, France, Georgia, Qatar, and Uruguay a unique insight into the meticulous work winemakers and their families undertake.
