Tui, Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2 and British Airways: what rules on airplane food are in force in 2024
Ryanair, TUI, and British Airways allow passengers to take food on board. Jet2's rules are a little less clear, but indicate that cold food is fine. There are other rules regarding baby food, up to a liter of which can be carried on flights.
Remember that solid food can be taken through airport security, but not liquids. Any liquids must be in individual transparent bottles with a capacity of no more than 100 ml. You cannot consume your own alcohol on flights, even if you bought it in Duty Free. If you want a drink on board, order a drink from the on-board trolley, writes the Manchester Evening News.
easyJet
You can take food on board if any liquid brought from home, such as soup or custard, is in transparent containers with a volume of no more than 100 ml. Soft drinks, including hot ones, can be brought on board if they were purchased in the departure lounge.
Ryanair
"Feel free" to bring your own food and soft drinks on board, Ryanair says. However, unlike EasyJet, hot drinks are not welcome.
"In the interests of safety, we cannot allow passengers to board the aircraft with hot drinks or consume their own alcohol during the flight," Ryanair says.
Jet2
Hot drinks and hot food are not allowed on Jet2 aircraft. But the rules are silent on the prohibition of bringing cold food, such as sandwiches, from home or the departure lounge.
However, Jet2's rules do state that customers are not allowed to bring food on board if it is "prohibited by applicable laws, regulations or orders of any country from, to or through which the flight is being operated." Technically, they could argue that meat and dairy products from the UK cannot be carried on board flights to the EU and confiscate your sandwich.
TUI
Passengers traveling with TUI can bring their own food on board. The carrier advises passengers to bring "low-risk food, such as ready-made sandwiches and snacks that can be eaten cold."
