Tourists wandered in the desert for a week due to the incorrect route on Google Maps
Two German tourists, Philip Mayer and Marcel Schoene, were attempting to drive from Cairns, Australia, to Bamaga when Google Maps directed them onto a dirt road leading to a remote area of Queensland's Far North.
Their car became stuck in the mud 60 kilometers into the journey, and they attempted to continue on foot before realizing they were in serious trouble, according to 9News.
The Tchrists had to cross a river with a crocodile, endure extreme weather, including thunderstorms and heat, and sleep under the stars after failing to build a shelter.
"I feel like I'm in a movie, like a bad movie, but with a happy ending," Mayer said.
They spent a week wandering on foot and eventually made it to a small town where they received help.
A Google spokesperson has already commented on the incident: "We apologize for this incident and are relieved that Philip and Marcel are safe. We can confirm that this route has been removed from the map."
