Touchless ID: how the new identification system helps tourists at the airport
United Airlines, in collaboration with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), announced the introduction of a groundbreaking development in airport security processes: Touchless ID technology. This innovative system is initially available to TSA PreCheck members at both Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Touchless ID is poised to revolutionize the travel experience by offering unparalleled convenience and efficiency. Specifically, the system enables passengers enrolled in TSA PreCheck to breeze through security checkpoints by simply undergoing a facial scan, as reported by TTW.
Travelers can skip traditional ID and boarding pass checks, streamlining airport procedures. To qualify, passengers need to upload their biometric selfie to the United app, scan their passports, and enter their Known Traveler Number (KTN). This process not only expedites security checks but also enhances the overall travel experience for passengers.
Currently, the program is open to individual travelers aged 18 and above. Compared to Clear, a private service utilizing biometric technology to expedite screening, United's Touchless PreCheck offers faster and less intrusive service.
Touchless PreCheck seamlessly integrates into existing security systems, marking a significant milestone in digitizing airport security to provide passengers nationwide with a smoother and more convenient travel experience.
The introduction of Touchless ID technology by United Airlines in collaboration with TSA aims to significantly elevate air travel. This initiative simplifies the security screening process, potentially reducing wait times and enhancing the overall airport experience for travelers. Consequently, it may encourage more frequent travel, particularly among individuals valuing convenience and efficiency.
For airlines, the adoption of such technology can foster increased customer loyalty as passengers appreciate streamlined processes. Moreover, as this technology becomes more prevalent, it can serve as a competitive advantage for airlines offering it, attracting a greater number of travelers.
Ultimately, Touchless ID represents a substantial advancement in making air travel more appealing and accessible, potentially leading to heightened travel activity and, consequently, a boost in tourism.
