This suburban town is one of the most desirable places to live in the UK
It's no secret that living in London can be a big hit to the wallet, but thanks to the abundance of jobs in the city, it's the place to be. That's why suburban cities are becoming increasingly popular for people on a budget.
Not far from London is one of the 50 most desirable places to live according to The Telegraph. The town of Fleet in Hampshire is only 50 minutes away from London, making it a great place to live when you need to commute to London for work, MyLondon writes.
The easiest way to get to the city is by train, which runs from Fleet Station to Waterloo. Alternatively, you can drive to London in about an hour and a half on the M3 highway.
The area where the city is located is extremely picturesque. The Basingstoke Canal runs through the region and is a popular place for walking, cycling, boating, picnics, and fishing. The town is also home to Fleet Pond, the largest lake in Hampshire.
The pond is located in the Yateley Common Country Park, a 500-acre heathland that is ideal for those who enjoy the outdoors. In addition to open spaces, there are also many historical sites worth exploring in Fleet. You can visit King John's Castle, which is believed to date back to the 13th century, and Dogmersfield Historic Park, which was frequented by Henry VII and his third wife, Jane Seymour.
A big factor in attractiveness is the price of houses. According to Rightmove, the average price of a property in Fleet last year was £495,863. This is £212,000 cheaper than the overall average price in London, which is £708,472.
The area also has a great choice of schools for families with twelve schools, including primary and secondary schools, all with excellent ratings from Ofsted.
Travel Wise previously wrote that London is the most vulnerable city in the world to aviation air pollution. Airplanes taking off and landing annually emit the equivalent of 3.23 million cars' worth of harmful nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
