The video featuring an actor from Tokyo Disneyland urging visitors to prepare for an earthquake while staying in the "Ia" pose has garnered 14 million views
For Japan, the year began with tragic events. On Tuesday, there was a collision of planes at Tokyo Airport, and the day before, a series of earthquakes occurred in the west of the archipelago, posing a tsunami threat.
Dozens of visitors to Tokyo Disneyland crouched near shops and rides as an announcer urged people to "prepare for a major earthquake." Amid the tense crowd, a man dressed as Eeyore tried to calm the visitors by swaying in the image of Eeyore," the South China Morning Post writes.
The clip was shot by Jason Hill, a Disney and travel enthusiast who visited Disneyland Park in Tokyo earlier this week. Hill's video went viral, garnering more than 14 million views on Instagram, and was showered with praise for the actor's dedication.
Disney did not respond to a request for comment on whether park performers are trained to interact with visitors in character during emergencies or whether they are expected to interact with visitors in emergencies.
The performance standards for Disneyland character performers have long been a subject of scrutiny for House of Mouse fans. These actors are usually expected never to break character.
