The oldest chicken on the planet dies in the United States
A chicken named Peanut, who became the record holder for age, died in December 2023 in Michigan. Peanut died in her sleep in her owner's arms on Christmas Day.
"She was a close family member and I am mourning her loss," Marcy Darwin, Peanut's owner, wrote in her blog, "Although I realize that she lived a phenomenally long life for a chicken, I am heartbroken. The story of the long-lived chicken was told on the Guinness World Records website.
It is known that after her mother abandoned Peanut, the future record holder spent the first two years of her life in a parrot cage in her owner's dining room, and then she was transferred to a chicken coop. When she reached old age, she was returned to the house, where she lived in the same cage as her daughter Millie, who died in October 2023, she was 15 years old.
During her life, Peanut hatched several nests of eggs, and many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren now live in Marci's coop. She has many fond memories of her pet Peanut's life.
"The most memorable moments of the past year are the reporters in our living room, on the floor, filming Peanut in the beginning of winter a year ago," Marci recalls. - "And then carrying her in a traveling basket to the croquet court in the spring and summer so she could nibble on the short green grass during the 'interview. Her spirit and antics captivated viewers on the Internet and in the media. She was an incredible little bird."
Marcy Darwin also added that she spent the night of December 23 holding the chicken in her arms, and on Christmas Eve she wrapped it in a blanket and took it to bed with her.
