The number of wild pigs may increase in Scotland - experts
Experts say that feral pigs have taken root in Scotland and their number could grow rapidly.
They are a mixture of wild boars and domestic pigs, including escaped animals and animals illegally released into the wild. Public organizations NatureScot and Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) are holding public discussions on what to do with them, Yahoo reports.
Rooting pigs can be beneficial to some woodland habitats, but damaging to farmland and gardens.
NatureScot said it is not known how many pigs roam freely in Scotland.
The FLS reported that there are four well-established populations in Dumfries and Galloway, Glenmoriston, near Fort Augustus, and Wester Ross.
People have also reported small numbers in other rural areas.
Experts fear that the pigs could cause damage to pastures and crops.
As reported by TravelWise, a pig artist nicknamed Picasso, who became famous for painting abstract paintings, died at the age of nine.
