The most 'turbulent' routes: experts have named a list of flights
When traveling by air, travelers often find themselves in so-called "air pockets" that add an element of extreme to any flight. According to experts, turbulence is "the uneven movement of air due to vortices and vertical currents."
In more serious situations, this can lead to the displacement of objects on board, a sharp drop, and general panic among passengers. It is emphasized that about 65,000 flights annually experience moderate turbulence, and about 5,500 experience severe turbulence, as reported by Metro.
Experts have compiled a list of flights that are most likely to experience turbulence. In total, six of the most turbulent routes were domestic flights in Japan and China.
1. Santiago (SCL) - Santa Cruz (VVI)
2. Almaty (ALA) - Bishkek (FRU)
3. Lanzhou (LHW) - Chengdu (CTU)
4. Centrair (NGO) - Sendai (SDJ)
5. Milan (MXP) - Geneva (GVA)
6. Lanzhou (LHW) - Xianyang (XIY)
7. Osaka (KIX) - Sendai (SDJ)
8. Xianyang (XIY) - Chengdu (CTU)
9. Xianyang (XIY) - Chongqing (CKG)
10. Milan (MXP) - Zurich (ZRH)
At the same time, experts explain that routes through the Andes or the Alps "seem to be high in the ranking due to the turbulence of mountain waves over the Andes and the Alps." In other words, mountainous regions tend to experience more turbulence, which travelers should be aware of when flying.
