Named "the most expensive" airport parking in the UK
Airport parking can add to the cost of your vacation before you even take off. However, there is an easy way to save money on airport parking.
You may have found the best travel deal or saved money on January flight sales, but the cost of travel can start to rise as soon as you arrive at the airport. According to a new study, this is the case for travelers who need to leave their cars in airport parking lots. Travel experts from FlightFinder.com found a significant price difference of almost £90 per week between the most expensive and cheapest parking lots in the country. This was reported by express.co.
The findings, published online as the UK Airport Cost of Parking Index, focused on the cheapest parking available at the 15 busiest UK airports for one week in February. The data showed that Heathrow Airport has the most expensive parking for travelers. A week's stay here will cost car owners a whopping £123. It was found that this is the only airport parking lot that charges customers more than £100.
For comparison, Edinburgh Airport, although not a major aviation center, was the cheapest. A week of parking here cost an average of £34.99.
Undoubtedly, the cheapest option is to use public transportation or have a family member drop you off at the airport. But if you have no choice but to park your car at the airport, there is an easy way to save "at least £125" on parking.
Experts from Holiday Extras have emphasized the importance of booking airport parking in advance.
David Norris, Development Director at Holiday Extras, said: "We are running a campaign to make people aware of the benefits of booking early. So we are pleased to see that people are booking airport parking in advance. Last year, most of our customers saved at least £125 on parking. And whenever they do, they can spend the money they save on airfare, meals, treats, and sightseeing."
Pre-booking airport parking with Holiday Extras can save up to 60% compared to prices at the gate at many airports across the country.
According to a study by FlightFinder.com, the cheapest airports during the analyzed period were Edinburgh, Belfast International, Glasgow, and Liverpool, all of which cost less than £60.
East Midlands Airport came in second at £81.39, and Gatwick Airport was third at £79.00.
