The low-cost carrier PLAY will connect Lithuania with Iceland
Starting May 25, passengers from Vilnius Airport will be able to fly to Reykjavik. The flights will be operated once a week on Saturdays by PLAY Airlines, which is commencing its operations in Lithuania.
PLAY Airlines has also opened an office in Vilnius since the end of 2021, and the company performs part of its business and administrative functions from Lithuania. Ticket sales have already been announced on the airline's official website. The airline operates flights on new and modern Airbus A320 or Airbus 321neo aircraft," writes Made in Vilnius.
According to Thomas Zitikis, Head of Flight Development at Lithuanian airports, the new airline's entry into our market will create more opportunities for travelers to get to know Iceland. In general, it is worth noting that this airline operates regular flights not only between Icelandic airports and European countries but also offers passengers connections to the east coast of the United States and Canada," says T. Zitikis.
The airline's CEO emphasized that Iceland and Lithuania still have a close historical connection.
"It's no secret that Iceland and Lithuania have had a long-distance romance for more than thirty years - Iceland supported the independence of the Baltic states and was the first Western country to recognize Lithuania's independence. In this case, we are pleased to be able to offer Lithuania our flights to Iceland. We offer competitive prices, so we look forward to further strengthening the connection between the two countries," says Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY Airlines.
PLAY is a low-cost airline operating flights between North America and Europe with an intermediate hub in Iceland. PLAY offers passengers the opportunity to book a stopover in Iceland for up to 10 days at no additional cost before continuing their journey across the Atlantic. In North America, PLAY operates flights from Baltimore, Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. in the United States and Toronto in Canada.
Earlier, Travel Wise wrote that Air Canada, Canada's national carrier, has updated its checked baggage rates, which has become a significant trend among North American airlines.
