The cost of British passports is rising rapidly before the summer: the reason is given
The cost of obtaining a new passport in Britain is set to rise as the government introduces new fees. Under the proposed changes, a standard online application submitted from the UK will rise to £88.50 for adults and £57.50 for children.
The government said the new fees will help cover the cost of processing applications. They added that the fees will also contribute to support abroad for people who have lost their passports or had them stolen, as well as the costs of processing British citizens at the UK's borders, Metro writes.
The government makes no profit from issuing passports.
How to renew your UK passport
You can renew your passport online. You will need a new digital photo, your old passport, and a credit or debit card.
Alternatively, you can renew your passport by submitting a paper application at a post office with a check and send service.
If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you will need more documents, including a full birth or adoption certificate.
An adult passport is valid for ten years, but in some countries, you will be denied entry if you have less than six months left before your passport expires.
What are the requirements for a passport photo?
If you are applying for a passport online, you will need a digital photo, which you can get at a photo kiosk or in a store.
Alternatively, you can take it yourself on your device.
If you take a digital photo, it must be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels high.
As reported by TravelWise, Britons with red passports, which are no longer issued to UK citizens after the country's exit from the EU, have been urged to check their documents before traveling abroad. Inattention can be costly.
