The choice of the British: which direction is popular this winter
With the onset of the Christmas and New Year holidays, an increasing number of Britons are turning their gaze toward the north in the hope of meeting Santa Claus. Tours to Lapland are in the top spot at this time.
According to estimates, the number of holiday flights to the Finnish region has increased by 15% this winter compared to 2022. Many passengers are expected to take off from Newcastle Airport for a winter trip on 15 flights, according to ChronicleLive.
Reportedly, 37,000 Britons have booked trips that include accommodation in ice hotels, sledding and snowmobiling, and northern lights tours. Many of them have planned to visit Santa and his reindeer in the snowy village of Kittilas, where visitors can also learn more about Lappish culture.
"It's incredible that we can provide more choices for our passengers who want to have this fantastic experience. Winter is a special time for families, and what better way to make memories that last a lifetime than to travel to a true winter paradise - Lapland," say British carriers planning additional flights to Lapland.
It is noted that this year's winter flights to Finland were extremely popular. Tour organizers say they are looking forward to welcoming passengers at the airport before their trip.
"This year, due to high demand, we have increased the number of flights so that more Brits can experience the magic of Lapland. It's a place where you dream of seeing the northern lights, meeting Santa in his house, and sledding in the snow becomes a reality," said TUI UK&I, a travel operator.
They assure that Lapland is a truly magical place to work; where else can you spend your free days feeding reindeer, enjoying husky walks or watching the Northern Lights? Guests' experiences in Lapland are unlike any other, and they leave memories for a lifetime.
It is also noted that this year's flights are almost sold out, but flights for 2024 are being sold from Newcastle International Airport by four tour operators. Newcastle Airport advises potential passengers to visit the tour operators' websites for more information.
