The Banaue-Batad-Bangaan-Hapao Rice Terraces National Park has been named one of the best places in the world to visit in 2024
One of the national parks in Wales has been included in the list of places to visit in 2024. Every year, the New York Times compiles a list of the 52 best places in the world to visit for that year.
The final list was compiled by the travel department of the American newspaper, aiming to offer a variety of places, both in cities and in remote rural areas. This year, the New York Times included the Brecon Beacons National Park among the places worth visiting, as reported by Wales Online.
Last year, the national park authorities decided to cancel its English name, Brecon Beacons, and officially call it Bannau Brycheiniog in Welsh only. In April 2023, on the 66th anniversary of the park, the park's management stated that this announcement was to reflect its commitment to Welsh culture, language, and heritage.
In Welsh, Bannau means "peaks," and Brycheiniog is a reference to the old ruler of the kingdom of Wales in the fifth century, Brychan. Its former English name was a reference to the carbon-emitting wood-fired lighthouses, which, they say, no longer fit the park's eco-ethic.
Instead of a burning Brecon Beacons brazier, the logo now features an ancient Welsh crown in a green forest under the stars, reflecting the park's commitment to a future where planting native trees restores a temperate rainforest, the ranking said.
"When visiting Bannau Brycheiniog, the 'pinnacle of the Brychan Kingdom,' take advantage of the park's public transportation and bike rentals, including the Explore Wales Pass for trains and buses, or take in the views with a waterfall walk from the village of Pontnedfechan," the report says.
