Almost all of the UK is under a storm warning due to Isha. Wind gusts of up to 80 mph (128 km/h) could cause power outages, traffic chaos and other problems in various parts of the country.
The warning is effective from 18:00 on Sunday everywhere except London and parts of the southeast. The British people were also reminded of the "yellow" rain warning covering the whole of the UK. The Met Office said that the storm could also lead to tornadoes in some areas, which is a rare occurrence in the country. The BBC writes more about the possible consequences and transportation disruptions.
As early as Sunday afternoon, wind gusts of up to 90 miles per hour were recorded in Capel Curig, Snowdonia, which is considered a very dangerous speed. Wind gusts of up to 60 miles are expected to reach every corner of the UK.
Transport may be delayed or canceled until at least the Monday morning rush hour. Passenger and freight transportation across Scotland was suspended at 19:00 on Sunday.
Rail and bus services may experience delays and cancellations. Network Rail has introduced a speed limit of 50 mph across England and Wales.
Britons are advised to stay away from windows and not to leave the house unless necessary.
British Airways canceled a number of flights due to the storm and apologized to passengers. Ferry companies have also announced a number of cancellations in different directions.
The heaviest rains are expected on Sunday. Many cities in the country may receive 30-50 mm of precipitation, which could lead to flooding. This is the concern expressed by the Met Office.
On the good news, temperatures are expected to rise in some parts of the UK by the end of the weekend, but the Met Office suggests that it may not get warmer due to strong winds.
