Stewardess answers 5 frequently asked questions about her job that passengers are concerned about
Airplane passengers are often curious about what goes on behind closed cabin doors, how celebrities are served, where their food is prepared on board, etc. There are always many myths and stereotypes surrounding the work of aviation industry personnel.
Barbara Bacillieri, a crew member from Argentina, answered the most common questions she has heard during her career. The Daily Star wrote about her answers.
Where is the passengers' food prepared?
There is not enough space for a full kitchen on board the plane. Usually, the meals served on board are prepared near the airport and delivered chilled before the flight. They can only be reheated on board.
Are flight attendants allowed to take pictures with celebrity passengers?
Our staff is trained to treat all passengers equally and to deal with their anxiety in the presence of celebrities. Flight attendants are not prohibited from taking photos with celebrities with their consent, but they should not be given additional privileges or better seats, or disclose their confidential information.
Why do flight attendants hide behind a curtain?
By curtaining a small room between the cabin and the cockpit, flight attendants are not hiding from passengers, but creating a small private corner for themselves, for example, to eat.
What does the crew do when they land?
Despite the myth that the crew is trying to get home as quickly as possible by taking another flight, in fact, the entire team goes to a hotel for a well-deserved rest. There, each of them recovers and waits for the return flight home. Sometimes flight attendants and pilots have more time and can explore a new destination.
What should passengers do in an emergency?
Barbara advises listening to the safety briefing at the beginning of the flight every time, even if you've done it before. That's when the crew demonstrates where the airbags and life jacket are located, as well as the emergency exits. These instructions may be different for each airplane.
You should also always wear your seatbelt and listen to the crew's advice in emergency situations.
