'Sky's the limit' for regional Australians as Virgin Australia and Link Airways launch codeshare flights

Virgin Australia and Link Airways have commenced the sale of codeshare flights, marking a significant milestone in enhancing travel options for regional Australians. The partnership, now offering tickets on Virgin Australia’s website, has already garnered substantial interest, particularly for the Bundaberg to Brisbane route.

This collaboration enables Virgin Australia customers to access 41 Australian destinations through a single booking, facilitating seamless travel experiences with through check-in and baggage transfer services. Notably, the codeshare services extend Virgin Australia's regional reach by approximately 45%, covering destinations like Inverell, Wollongong, and Bileola that were previously underserved by major airlines.

As of today, travelers can directly book codeshare flights via Virgin Australia’s website, unlocking 17 new routes and around 90 additional weekly flight options across regional Australia. Moreover, Velocity members stand to benefit, earning both Points and Status Credits on Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by Link Airways. Additionally, Velocity Platinum, Gold, and Silver members will enjoy bonus Points and an extra baggage allowance on eligible fares, along with access to Virgin Australia Lounges when traveling on these codeshare services.

Alistair Hartley, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at Virgin Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the expanded connectivity, stating, "The sky’s the limit now for so many regional Australians wanting better connectivity between home and the rest of our great country." Highlighting the popularity of the Bundaberg to Brisbane route, he emphasized the commitment to providing value and choice to customers through the seamless partnership.

Jeff Boyd, Manager of Network Strategy and Development at Link Airways, echoed this sentiment, welcoming the opportunity to serve more customers and enhance connectivity across Australian regional towns and cities. He emphasized the benefits of the collaboration in providing seamless travel experiences nationwide through Virgin Australia’s extensive route network.
