Sexism in the courtroom: Senator calls Delta pilot a "stewardess"
Despite the fact that the term "stewardess" is slowly falling out of use, some people continue to use it, giving it an additional sexist connotation. This is particularly true for passengers who assume that any female crew member on board an airplane can be called a stewardess.
Recently, an unfortunate incident occurred with a female pilot of Delta Air Lines (DAL), who was repeatedly called a "stewardess" in court. This was reported by TheStreet.
It is noted that Laura Haynor, an officer and pilot of Delta Airlines in Minneapolis, spoke in court on behalf of the International Airline Pilots Association regarding proposed amendments to the state law on safety and sick pay for public employees.
During the hearing, she introduced herself and described her role in the company. However, Gene Dornink, a Republican senator from Minnesota's 27th district, asked her to describe what her "typical work week as a stewardess" looks like.
The court hearing was livestreamed, and the video showing the assumptions women face in the aviation industry went viral on various platforms.
Earlier, TravelWise reported that a Delta flight was disrupted due to maggots on board the plane.
