Savute Safari Lodge: A Rebirth of Luxury and Wildlife Adventure in Botswana
Desert & Delta Safaris proudly announces the grand reopening of Savute Safari Lodge on June 1, 2024, following a complete rebuild. Celebrating over 25 years as a traveler's delight, the revamped lodge is set to redefine luxury safari experiences.
Vicky Karantavelu wrote an article about the new Savute Safari Lodge, which combines natural thatch and canvas in the design of its rooms, harmoniously blending with the environment and providing comfort during the warmer months. A first for Desert & Delta Lodges, the addition of private outdoor showers allows guests to enjoy an enchanting shower under the stars or a refreshing cool one after an exciting morning safari.
Each guest room is meticulously crafted to offer mesmerizing views of the Savute Channel, which runs from the Linyanti River to Savute Marsh. This channel has been a lifeline for the western part of Chobe National Park for millennia, known for its fascinating and unpredictable flooding and drying patterns.
The lodge's interior décor resonates with the spirit of a traditional safari lodge, infused with a sleek, modern aesthetic. The color scheme mirrors the stunning contrasts of the Kalahari, mixing earthy greens with vibrant hues reminiscent of life-giving rains.
A standout feature is the thoughtfully redesigned communal space, oriented to maximize views of one of Botswana's most dramatic waterholes. The elevated deck, complete with a central fireplace, descends to a sunken hide, offering guests an intimate wildlife viewing experience at eye level with the diverse animal life in Savute.
This unique waterhole has garnered international fame, featured in wildlife documentaries like National Geographic’s "Savage Kingdom" and the BBC’s "Planet Earth" series. It's a site of intense wildlife interactions, from predator battles to large congregations of elephants, providing an unparalleled 'in-lodge' wildlife watching opportunity.
The lodge is a magnet for wildlife enthusiasts. Resident elephants are a common sight at the Channel, and the area witnesses one of the world's longest land-mammal migrations, with vast herds of zebra traveling to the southwest. This migration, followed by large prides of lions, also offers chances to spot leopards and cheetahs.
Savute is also a haven for endangered wild dogs, renowned for their hunting prowess, and hyenas, formidable predators in their own right. The lodge promises an exceptional game-viewing experience, with the potential for up-close encounters with some of Africa's most iconic wildlife.
Matthew Johnson, Managing Director of Desert & Delta Safaris, comments on the lodge's rebirth: “Savute is an iconic safari destination, and the new Savute Safari Lodge will offer guests a front-row seat to the wildlife of the unique and mysterious Savute from an extremely comfortable and stylish lodge."
