SAS Expands 2024 Summer Program to Include Atlanta
Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is set to enhance its North American network by adding a ninth destination to its 2024 summer program. Beginning June 17, SAS will offer daily nonstop flights from Copenhagen to Atlanta, marking a significant expansion in its transatlantic offerings. This new route not only introduces an exciting destination but also increases the frequency of flights to the USA during the summer months.
The route between Copenhagen and New York (JFK) will witness an increase to up to two daily flights. This comes in addition to the existing daily flights to New York-Newark airport from Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen. Furthermore, the Copenhagen to Boston route will operate daily, a step up from the six times a week schedule in the previous summer. Additionally, a fourth weekly flight will be added from Copenhagen to Toronto, reflecting SAS's commitment to providing more options for its travelers.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest and most efficient airport, with nearly 94 million passengers in 2022, plays a crucial role in this new route. The airport's proximity to the Port of Savannah, America's largest and fastest-growing container terminal, is expected to significantly boost cargo transport along this route.
Anko van der Werff, CEO of SAS, highlighted the strategic importance of this expansion. A partnership with Delta Air Lines allows passengers to easily continue their journey to other Delta-served destinations from Atlanta. This development provides SAS passengers with an expanded range of destinations in the southern USA, the Caribbean, and Latin America, all conveniently accessible from Atlanta.
The summer schedule features daily flights using the Airbus A330, while the winter schedule will operate five weekly flights with the Airbus A350. This expansion reflects SAS's ongoing commitment to enhancing its global connectivity and providing passengers with more flexible travel options.
Additionally, SAS recently entered into codeshare agreements with EL AL Israel Airlines and Etihad Airways, further broadening its network and offering passengers smoother connections and access to a wide range of destinations. SAS currently has 18 such codeshare agreements with various airlines globally.
SAS's upcoming summer program will see it serving key North American destinations, including Atlanta, New York (EWR and JFK), Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami (until April 7), and Toronto, catering to the diverse needs of its international clientele.
