Royal Caribbean is suspending stops at one of the ports in Haiti: the reason
Given the rapidly rising crime rate and unstable political situation in Haiti, Royal Caribbean has announced a temporary suspension of cruise ship calls to the port of Labadee, located on the northern coast of the country.
According to the travel company's spokespersons, they are monitoring all changes in the situation in Haiti. According to CNN, Royal Caribbean is forced to make temporary adjustments to cruise routes.
"The safety of our guests, crew, and the communities we visit is our top priority. Our global security and intelligence team is closely monitoring the situation in Haiti, and with great caution, we are temporarily adjusting voyages that visit Labadee," the company said in an official statement.
Royal Caribbean owns a private port in Labadee, which is located about 210 kilometers from the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince. Passengers were promised to be warned of all changes.
Since the beginning of March, Haiti has been suffering from gang violence. Royal Caribbean's port is located on a peninsula in northern Haiti and is accessible only to guests and employees of the company.
The port, which is guarded by its own security service, has a resort with five beaches, a cable car, and other entertainment facilities.
As previously reported by TravelWise, Royal Caribbean and Carnival have reported an increase in sales this travel season.
