Return of cruises to the Baltic Sea: from Klaipeda to Gdansk
Most cruise destinations expect an increase in the number of calls to ports in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea region. This is stated in the Cruise Baltic market report.
Recently, especially in 2023, geopolitical conflicts have affected the prosperity of cruise vacations in this region. This has led to a decrease in the number of events in eastern ports, while in the western part of the region, on the contrary, TravelAndTourWorld writes.
According to the publication's forecast for 2024, cruise lines are showing renewed interest in eastern destinations. It is noted that this year Klaipeda expects an increase in the number of flights by 41%, Gdansk – by 90%, and Turku – by 133%.
In addition, Cruise Baltic announces other changes. Thus, the size of the ships operating in the region will increase, and interest in cruises with smaller ships will grow. Also, according to forecasts, the structure of the number of events that each port will host is expected to change.
It is worth noting that among the well-known cruises that plan to increase the number of events, such destinations as Orendal – up to 77%, Nyborg – will double, and Helsinki – by 125%.
Klaus Bondam, director of Cruise Baltic, emphasizes that the growing interest in some destinations is very encouraging and allows us to make a forecast for the positive development of the Baltic region.
"Cruise guests, like all other travelers, are looking for new and unique experiences, and by promoting new aspects of our region to cruise lines, we remain relevant to our target group," he said.
