PLAY Launches Innovative Stopover Program in Iceland
In a groundbreaking move for the aviation industry, PLAY, the Icelandic budget airline, has introduced a stopover program that allows passengers traveling between North America and Europe to enjoy Iceland without incurring additional costs. The initiative aims to leverage Iceland's unique geographical position as a natural stopover point, enhancing the travel experience for passengers while promoting tourism in Iceland.
Effective immediately, travelers can book their own stopover through PLAY's website, with the option to extend their stay in Iceland for up to 10 days. This new feature invites passengers to explore Iceland’s breathtaking landscapes, including its famous waterfalls, geysers, hot springs, and glaciers, at no extra charge.
PLAY's CEO, Birgir Jónsson, highlighted the win-win nature of the program, emphasizing its potential to transform a simple layover into an extended exploration of Iceland's natural beauty. "This initiative is not just about connecting continents; it's about connecting people with the wonders of Iceland," Jónsson stated.
Since its first flight in June 2021, PLAY has quickly expanded its operations, now serving key North American cities and over 30 European destinations. The airline's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction was recognized when it received accolades for its service quality and punctuality.
This stopover program is part of PLAY's strategy to make travel more accessible and enjoyable, allowing passengers to "Pay less, PLAY more" by saving on their flights and spending more on experiences.
