PIA stewardess arrested in Toronto: what was found in her suitcase
A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant was arrested in Toronto, Canada, for carrying several passports registered to different individuals. Recently, there has been an increase in cases involving missing PIA flight attendants in Canada, making this particular incident especially concerning.
According to the local Pakistani news outlet ARY News, flight attendant Hina Sani was detained by Canadian authorities upon the arrival of flight PK 789 from Lahore.
Passports belonging to unidentified individuals were discovered in her luggage, raising suspicion among law enforcement officials.
Reportedly, this is not the first incident involving the flight attendant: she had previously received a warning for attempting to import prohibited items into Canada.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has not commented on the incident at the time of publication.
In recent years, at least 7 PIA flight attendants have gone missing in Canada. Reasons for the Pakistani flight attendants' departure likely include low salaries, concerns about PIA privatization, and favorable asylum conditions in Canada.
PIA is attempting to address this issue by raising the minimum age for flight attendants flying to Canada and establishing a special unit to investigate disappearances.
As TravelWise previously reported, Pakistan's tourism revenues have fallen by almost 20%.
