Packed like sardines: New Yorkers complain about the excessive number of people in the city
New Yorkers complain about the crowds and fear that the city may be overcrowded. Last year alone, more than 60 million tourists visited New York, and they keep coming back in search of entertainment and a special atmosphere.
What exactly attracts tourists to the Big Apple is reported by Daily Express.
According to Kelly Duhigg, founder of the Girl with the Passport blog, who has lived in New York for the past 20 years, tourists are attracted by the city's special energy and the crowds that constantly accompany memorable and popular places. In particular, according to her, the most popular tourist destinations in New York are Times Square and Central Park.
According to Kelly Duhigg, on New Year's Eve, the traditional ball drop ceremony gathers about a million tourists. That is why, at this time, people who cannot stand crowds should refrain from visiting Times Square.
"The locals say that trying to go down to Times Square on New Year's Eve is the biggest mistake you can make while in the city. And they are not wrong! The subway stations were so crowded that it was hard to even maneuver. And when I was above ground, it was impossible to move at all. I felt like a sardine trying to crawl through people to see a giant ball drop," Kelly said.
In addition, Kelly notes that those who want to visit New York's Central Park in the summer should take into account its fullness on weekends. That's why she recommends visiting it early in the morning or in the afternoon on weekdays. She also recommends exploring the unpopular part of the park, where there are usually fewer visitors.
