Norwegian Group Soars with 1.8 Million Passengers in March, Commits to Greener Skies
March proved to be a buoyant month for the Norwegian Group, as it welcomed an impressive 1.8 million passengers across its operations, including its subsidiaries Norwegian and Widerøe. This spike in passenger numbers is a clear indication of the airline's robust recovery and growing appeal among travelers, especially with the early Easter holiday contributing to the surge. Norwegian led the charge with 1,544,289 passengers, while Widerøe added 276,413 to the tally. The group's load factor, a measure of how efficiently it fills seats, saw a commendable increase, with Norwegian's reaching 85%, up by 4 percentage points from the previous March.
Behind these numbers lies a tale of operational excellence. Norwegian reported an outstanding regularity of 99.6% and a significant improvement in on-time performance. The airline’s CEO, Geir Karlsen, praised the team's efforts in achieving these results, emphasizing the importance of reliability and zero cancellations for international flights during the busy Easter period. This operational success was complemented by a forward-looking "Spring Sale" campaign, aiming to capitalize on the positive booking trends for the upcoming summer season.
In a parallel stride towards environmental responsibility, the group announced a 10% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer compared to last March, highlighting its commitment to sustainability. This achievement aligns with Norwegian's ambitious target to cut emissions by 45% by 2030, leveraging fleet renewal, operational efficiency, and sustainable aviation fuels. As the airline forges ahead, these efforts underscore its commitment to not just connecting destinations but also to pioneering a greener future in aviation.
