A new fare payment system is being introduced in Hungary. It is simpler and more affordable than the current one. Children under 14 will be able to travel free of charge, and day tickets will also be available.
According to the MÁV-Volán group of companies, in the spring, instead of the current 15 designs of season tickets, there will be two - a district and a national season ticket - and instead of the current sixty-five types of discounts, there will be about twenty," writes the Lelepo publication.
Here are the changes in ten points.
- Children under 14 and over 65 ride free, and children aged 14-25 pay half the price.
- Starting March 1, it will also be possible to purchase an additional ticket to the first and premium class along with a travel pass.
- All other types of passes, such as half-monthly passes, HÉV passes, Volánbus district passes, and TramTrain passes, will be canceled, in addition to county and national passes.
- In the case of discounted national and county travel passes, the discounted passes will also include persons with disability passes.
- Day tickets "Vármegye24" and "Magyarország24" will be introduced for those who plan several daily trips. The former can be used within 24 hours under the same conditions as a travel ticket for the same county, and the latter - under the same conditions as a travel ticket for the country.
- People with disabilities and long-term patients, who currently pay a reduced rate of 90 percent for intercity transportation, will be able to use intercity transportation free of charge.
- Those who will not need to buy tickets include the blind, the hearing impaired, those receiving increased family allowances, those receiving disability benefits, those studying in special educational institutions, and those with special educational needs. Their accompanying persons and visitors are also entitled to free travel in cases provided for by law.
- Large families who have already benefited from the travel privilege for large families will also be exempt from paying for travel.
- Civil servants will be entitled to a 50 percent discount for an unlimited number of trips upon registration.
- Holders of passes for privileged persons will be entitled to an unlimited number of rides with a 50 percent discount, as well as discounted national and county passes," the MÁV-Volán Group said in a statement.
