Mysterious Kentucky ticket: Why the lucky winner hasn't claimed the prize and become a millionaire yet
The US state of Kentucky reported that one of the winning tickets for one million dollars is still unclaimed. The peculiarity of the situation is that the ticket will expire soon, so the organizers can keep the prize.
According to WCPO, the ticket was purchased at the Henry County Pilot Travel Centre on July 19 but it hasn't been claimed yet. The Kentucky Lottery reported that the ticket expires in January and that the organizers should be contacted before then to claim the prize.
"It is rare for any of the $1 million Powerball tickets not to be transferred to a winner," said Mary Harville, president of the Kentucky Lottery. The organizers emphasize that the ticket expires in a few weeks, but the lottery does not give up hope that they will be able to find the ticket owner.
What is known about the million-dollar prize
The article states that the winning ticket was specially sold at the Pilot on Pendleton Road in Pendleton, Kentucky. The location of the ticket sale is Henry County, northeast of Louisville.
According to the organizers, the winning ticket matched the first five white balls - 7, 10, 11, 13, 24 - which brought them a $1 million prize. The ticket fell just short of winning the $1 billion jackpot because it did not match the Powerball, which was 24.
It is added that if the ticket buyer does not contact and claim their winnings, the money will be returned to the state's unclaimed prize fund, which was created to support the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship.
